People enjoy seeing the beautiful, scenic California coastline and Seal Beach California is no exception. Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge is located along the Pacific Coast Highway and as you drive by you will get a glimpse of a lush green saltwater marsh and wonder how you can see more. Questions that are often asked, are how can I visit or even whom to ask? Many locals and tourists are attracted to this spot and with further investigation they may become frustrated in their efforts to gain access. There are restrictions to access that can be worked out with a little planing.

This Refuge is different than most that you may visit around the country, it is located within land owned and operated by the United States Navy. Operations include an active Naval Weapons Station with all of the military personnel, equipment and security that you would expect. Therefore, the simple casual walk through visit requires a little planing and this is possible by following the information found in the Home/Tours and Visits page. Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge is managed by the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service a Federal branch of the U.S. Department of the Interior. Their mission is “Wildlife First” and with the Navy’s permission they would also like for you to be able to visit.
